The Dresden City Museums' collection of posters, documents, audio recordings and maps comprises a diverse range of written and visual sources. It includes deeds, personal documents and diaries, plans and maps, posters, files and company documents, as well as self-edited discs and floppy discs.
The collection of the City Museum and the Municipal Gallery provides a lively picture of social, political and cultural life since the 18th century. (Partial) estates of important personalities - including Carl Maria von Weber, Hermann Prell, Hans Bernhard Sprung and members of the von Schuch family - complete the collection.
The economic developments of the city can be traced through the holdings of the Dresden Technology Collections. The focus is on photographic and film technology (VEB Pentacon, Ihagee, Ernemann), sewing machines and typewriters (Seidel & Naumann) and microelectronics (VEB Robotron). (Partial) estates of formative personalities of Dresden's industrial culture are those of Emanuel Goldberg, Werner Hartmann, Walter Hahn and Benno Thorsch.
